Become a VA Community Care provider
You do not sign up with the VA directly. You sign up with the company that runs the Community Care Network in your state. Here is who that is, and who to call.
VA Community Care lets eligible veterans see private providers when the VA cannot give them the care. If you run a clinic, you can ask to be one of those providers. The VA does not enroll you itself. It runs the program through outside companies called third-party administrators (TPAs).
Step 1: find your region
The Community Care Network has five regions. Your state decides which one you call. The VA lists them on its Community Care Network page.

Step 2: contact that company
The VA says to contact the TPA for your region to begin enrollment. Here is how, as the VA lists it:
- Region 1: Optum, 888-901-7407 Or use the Optum provider website.

- Region 3: Optum, 888-901-6613 Or use the Optum provider website.
- Regions 4 and 5: TriWest Use its Provider Contract Request website (the VA lists this as preferred), email ProviderServices@TriWest.com, or call 877-226-8749.

Do I apply to the VA directly?
No. The VA says to contact the third-party administrator for your region to begin enrollment. Optum runs Regions 1 to 3 and TriWest runs Regions 4 and 5.
Which company covers my state?
See the table above. For example, Virginia, Maryland and D.C. are Region 1 (Optum). Texas and California are Region 4 (TriWest).
Does it cost money to join?
The VA page does not say. Ask your regional administrator before you start.
Will joining send me patients?
The VA page does not promise that. Joining makes you eligible to be a network provider. It is not a guarantee of referrals.
